Building a KidWind Turbine for the KidWind Challenge

This evening program is student teams to prepare for the Western WA KidWind Challenge to be held on Saturday April 25th.  During these there evening sessions you will have an opportunity to learn the basics of turbine design and test your design using our own wind tunnel and measuring system.  You will be ready to compete if you desire in the Seattle Challenge with the skills you will learn as a team during these sessions.

When: Wednesdays April 8, 20 and 22nd. from 7:00PM – 8:30PM

Where: Coe Elementary School, 2424 7th Ave W, Seattle WA (Lunchroom)

Who can participate: Students grade K – 8th are welcome to participate.  Students in grades K – 5 must be accompanied by an adult.  You may participate in teams of up to 3 students (If in grades K – 5 with one adult).

Cost: There is a participation cost per team of 1 to 3 students per team of $45.00  This includes up to two generator hubs, dowels and generator. (Scholarships are available)

Teams may purchase for a nominal materials fee additional material during the workshops:

  • Extra hubs, dowels and generator pack: $12.00
  • Additional hub and dowles: $10.00
  • High torque generator: $10.00

All registration is handled on-line.  Teams/individuals must register using our on-line registration system.

Please note: Please understand also the general program guidelines here. This program includes using some basic tools of which some may be sharp, or hot (hot glue guns), by signing up you acknowledge that you will follow the safety rules as outlined during the sessions.  Younger students (grades K-5) will be required to be supervised by their accompanying adult as they use such tools.
